Lucky Token 2027: ‘The Elephant’
The token shows Kurti the lucky pig riding an elephant in India. While Kurti is busy trying not to fall off, the elephant cheerfully waves to us with its trunk.
Another reason why its trunk is pointing upwards is that – according to Buddhist and Hindu belief – only then will it bring good fortune. As a spirit animal, the elephant’s serene stride makes it the perfect embodiment of calm. – The token: a lucky charm that’s sure to work its magic as a New Year’s gift.
The Indian Elephant
Indian elephants reach 2 to 3.5 metres tall at the shoulder and weigh 2,000 to 5,000 kilograms. To maintain that weight, these herbivores need to eat up to 150 kilograms of food a day. They inhabit grasslands and lush forests.
Ganesha, a much-loved figure from Hindu mythology, is often depicted as a small child, albeit one with a large, rounded elephant head.
The largest living land animals on Earth are regarded as wise and strong. In India, some are kept as temple elephants; they are elaborately decorated in bright colours for festivals.
The reverse of the token reads: ‘Bin ich auch nur klein und rund, bring doch Glück ich jede Stund’ (Though small and round I may appear, I bring you luck throughout the year).
