Good news for fans of 2 euro coins! From 2027, Austria will mint a new 2 euro design every year – opening a new chapter for collectors that many have been eagerly awaiting. The 2027 coin programme marks the beginning of a new 2 euro design being issued every year. The first honours a man whose music brings people together across Europe and around the world. The coin commemorates one of the greatest composers of all time, Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827), on the 200th anniversary of his death.
And there is particularly good news for anyone who appreciates the highest possible quality! For the first time, an Austrian 2 euro coin will be issued in Proof, strictly limited to just 7,500 pieces worldwide and presented in a case complete with a certificate of authenticity and protective slipcase.
The special Proof issue and the euro coin sets will be available from 2 December 2026. This gives you the chance to secure your piece of this new chapter in collecting from the very beginning – flawlessly minted, elegantly presented and ideal for collecting or as a gift.
In 2027, the Beethoven 2 euro coin will also be issued as a circulation coin in Uncirculated quality. This means that in addition to finding its way into your collection, the design may also appear in your wallet or in your change when shopping – a delightful interplay of everyday life and the joy of collecting.
